Monday notes—January 16, 2023
Hey everyone. Here are some notes of what I’m pondering and exploring. Please feel free to forward this along to friends.
Values at a startup
Over the last year, Tech has had many moments of reckoning. As companies came crashing down, we learned how brittle their values were. This is a good take on how we should look at values and how they apply to company building.
I’ve written about values on this blog and recommend you read this post and this one.
Built this micro app
I built this little app to motivate myself—it’s called Should I work out today?
I used ChatGPT to think through different ideas and then build on them. I’m going to continue using ChatGPT for software development and design and at the very least it’s like a 100x StackOverflow.
I’ve bookmarked my app URL, so that whenever I’m feeling a lack of motivation, I click on it…
Going gluten free
I went gluten free since the beginning of the year. So far I'm noticing some good improvements, mostly in my sleep and skin. Overall I’m getting more deep sleep and more REM, though sometimes I’ve found it slightly harder to fall asleep.
When I eat gluten, I get hot and flushed and just don’t feel great. In the past I’ve gone gluten free for periods of time mostly when I was keto and my energy levels were off the charts, and overall felt great. It also does seem as though a brain fog is lifting. I have a hunch that I have a leaky gut which has been affecting my thyroid, so I’m working on fixing that by going gluten free. So far so good.
I’m also trying to get my vitamin D levels up because 90% of us are deficient. I recommend you check out Chris Kresser—he’s an expert on all of this stuff.
Coachella lineup was announced
Coachella lineup was announced and it's good! We’re going. So far I’m mostly excited for Gorillaz and The Chemical Brothers and will continue ranking artists as we get closer.
Shows and movies I’m watching
Severance on Apple TV. I think this is the best show I’ve seen since Breaking Bad. It’s really really really good. Adam Scott is incredible.
Nope (film) by Jordan Peele: I watched this movie on the plane to Vegas and loved it.
Upcoming essays
“Why we need a new medical system”—I’m working on this after some deep diving into my own health over the last five years. It takes a deeper look at the medical system we currently have, why it’s not working, and how we can change it (not the mention the relationship we have with ourselves).
Thanks for reading!
